HOG's Legs 7th June 2007
With the Tour de France coming to the UK this year it seemed only fair to return the compliment, so Meridian Chapter undertook its own Mini Boucle with a circular route taking in a border crossing to Belgium as well.
As per the cycling tour we had our own Lanterne Rouge/ Last Man in the guise of Michael Howers and for the first time two Yellow Jerseys leading the ride, Andrew Papas on Sat Nav with my job to prompt the drop offs and control the ride.
Stage One ended in the Town of Bergues, but it seemed the town square had been turned into a film set for the day and with no possibility of parking 40 bikes, instead of 'Allo 'Allo it had to be Adieu Adieu. No such problems were encountered at the second stage stop, the Town of Ypres was far better prepared and the lunch stop lasted here for the best part of 3 hours. After the group photo it was back into France and the welcoming town of St Omer, the Mairies parking area always looks good, but none better than when covered in line after line of still Shining Harleys. A happy hour here, refreshed yet again and we were off on the final stage, back to Calais for a little shopping prior to the homeward Train.
My thanks go out to everybody that rode with us today, you were immaculate in all things, the drop offs were spot on, the formation riding looked Regimental, I cannot recall a ride that was so tight, well done, you were an impressive sight.........Lets do it again next Year....................Dave Mollison
