Christmas Party 13th December 2008
With the Chapter rides almost finished for the year the next event on the calendar was the Meridian Christmas Party. Preparations had started in August, with Phil and Sally, Dave and Karen and Sue and myself checking out the Moat and booking the restaurant for Christmas all in the same evening. Dave suggested using the Black Catt disco from Dover, having seen them in action earlier in the year, and he handled the booking plus putting together the rogues gallery of Meridian photos dating back to 2004 when the Chapter was first formed.
Although it was a wet and windy night a steady stream of people joined the party, with a total of seventy-two members and guests sitting down to enjoy the Christmas fare. The rocket balloons proved to be extremely popular, especially given the high-beamed ceiling and the large amount of targets decorating the upper levels. Dinner was served and the disco played whilst running Dave’s photo collection, accompanied by the occasional cheer at a familiar face. Phil Middleton also entertained his table and tried to claim the title of Chapter Arsonist with his impressive display involving an out of control flaming serviette. Once the excellent three course meal, coffee and warm mince pies were consumed it was time for the dance floor to be cleared and the bar to be hit.
Rob Warr made a very welcome visit to the party, and managed to chat to most people before strutting his stuff on the dance floor along with Alex, Shaun and Gary from the Mottingham dealership and the Meridian dancing divas. The evening ended at 1:00am with a few hardy souls still dancing to the very last song.
Thanks to all the staff at the Moat, the Black Catt disco and everyone who came and made it such a great night.
