Bluebell Run 2nd August 2009
Something strange happened on Sunday the 2nd of August. Was it 67 Harley Davidson motorcycles lined up outside Warr's Mottingham Road? No. The sun was out and blue skies greeted us as we prepared to set off on The Bluebell Railway run. At 10am or thereabouts I lined myself up ready to head off only to find the rest of the ride had better ideas and headed off in the wrong direction, so frantic arm waving from Steve Hush soon got them going the right way.
With the ride underway we passed through Bromley without a hitch thanks to the excellent marshalling from the ever reliable road crew, on through Biggin Hill and Westerham to our comfort break in what can only be described as one of the highways agencies best kept secrets, a layby on the A25 where for once the loos were open.
Bluebell break Back on the bike to head off I decided to just check and make sure everyone was ready only to suffer the Buell wobbly stand and turn to see my bike laying on it's side good job we have some burley members who helped me pick it up, on our way once more along the A22 and with some nifty filtering we passed through East Grinsted without too much delay, once we had cleared East Grinsted the roads emptied out and the ride continued along some nice roads to end up in the car park of The Bluebell Railway.
We arrived at around lunchtime and after the attached group photo people decided what they were going to do for the afternoon (which was still sunny) some headed off to Eastbourne for some fish and chips a few more rode the 5 or so miles to a nice pub called the Red Lion while others took in the delight's of a bygone era and went for a ride on the beautifully restored steam train.
Many thanks are extended to Shaun at the Warr's dealership for opening the doors early so we could browse the delights and have a coffee and of course to the road crew who make our rides the success they are. Thanks lads.
