Pioneer Run Sunday 18th March

Recruiting, bike sales, awards, ride information: Warrs Harley-Davidson >>

On Sunday 18th March Warr's MD John Warr will be riding his 1914 Harley-Davidson C10 Silent Gray Fellow from London to Brighton in the 74th running of the annual Pioneer Run, organised by the Sunbeam Motorcycle Club. Early on Sunday morning over 300 of the World's rarest forms of two wheel transport - entry rules require them all to have been made before the end of 1914 - will assemble on Epsom Downs ready for their 62 mile reliability trial. Their route takes them via the hiways and lanes towards and over the South Downs, culminating a few hours later in a grand display of pioneering spirit on Madeira Drive in Brighton.

The names on these wonderful machines may seem strange. Dreadnought, Alldays and Onions, Stringer, Henderson, Flying Merkel, New Imperial etc but they are the pioneering ancestors of the motorcycles we know and love today. When John's bike was first made Harley-Davidson Inc. was just 10 years old and it's very likely that one of the company founders, perhaps avid rider Arthur Davidson, would have road tested it around Milwaukee's cart tracks and new tarmac roads. It was the norm for the Motor Company founders to test fresh off the line bikes in those early low production years before WW1.

John considers it an honour to be able to ride his piece of Harley history in the Pioneer and promises to toot his horn to any waving Harley fans on route. See if you can spot him. He'll probably be the only Harley mounted rider in the event so give him a cheer!
