On Sunday 9th March Warr's boss John Warr rode his 1914 Harley-Davidson C10 Silent Gray Fellow from London to Brighton in the 70th running of the annual Pioneer Run, organised by the Sunbeam Motorcycle Club. Early on Sunday morning over 300 of the World's rarest forms of two wheel transport, all made before the end of 1914, assembled on Epsom Downs ready for their two wheel adventure. Their route took them via the hiways and lanes towards and over the South Downs, culminating a few hours later in a grand display of pioneering spirit on Madeira Drive in Brighton.
The names on the wonderful machines may seem strange. Dreadnought, Alldays and Onions, Stringer, Henderson, Flying Merkel, New Imperial etc but they are the pioneering ancestors of the bikes we know and love today. John's Harley is one of only two H-D's entered in the event such is their rarity. When his bike was first made Harley-Davidson was just 10 years old and it's highly likely that one of the company founders would have road tested it around Milwaukee's roads, as was their habit in those early days.
We can report that John completed the run in a very respectable 2 hours including a stop for tea.
